Karma is a family-owned Indian restaurant in Southeast Calgary. We have been cooking tandoori, slow-simmered curries and fresh naan on 130 Ave SE since 2006.
Come for the weekday lunch buffet, a family dinner, or a tray of butter chicken for the office. Whatever the occasion, we cook it the way we would at home.
Our story
Karma was opened in 2006 by Rav Hundal, whose family is from Punjab and who was born in Blairmore, Alberta. Rav learned the restaurant business working alongside his uncle, Makhan Samrai, at Tandoori Hut in Kensington, and it was his uncle who inspired him to open a restaurant of his own in southeast Calgary.
Home cooking has always been at the heart of it. Rav grew up eating his mother Mandeep's cooking, and she brought that same care into the Karma kitchen. Today we are still family-owned and still on 130 Ave SE, and some of our regulars have been coming since our first year. How we cook
The tandoor
Our kitchen is built around the clay oven. Tandoori chicken, chicken tikka, paneer tikka and fresh naan all come out of it. Most of our spices are imported directly from India, and most dishes can be made mild, medium or spicy.
House favourites
Butter Chicken is our specialty, made sweet and mild or in the traditional, spicier style. Try the vegetarian Navrattan Korma, or go bold with a Vindaloo.
Hakka
Our Indian-Chinese section includes Chili Paneer, Vegetable Manchurian and Hakka Noodles.
Eating with dietary needs
We keep an allergy menu showing which dishes are gluten-free, dairy-free or contain other common allergens, and we offer gluten-free roti. Vegetarian and vegan dishes on the lunch buffet are labelled. Please tell your server about any allergy before you order.
